Senior Services Supervisor

Northville Parks and Recreation, a shared service between the City of Northville and Northville Township, is accepting applications for a Senior Services Supervisor. The position is a full-time, non-union, exempt, supervisory position with fringe benefits.

Job Summary: Under the direction of the Parks and Recreation Director, develops, implements, and oversees the daily operation of the departmentís Senior Services division. Recruits, interviews, and recommends hiring of programming and operational personnel to maintain, improve, and expand programs and services. Oversees the departmentís daily transportation and trip programs. Works with community partners, sponsors, and volunteers to provide a comprehensive recreation, life-long learning, and health & wellness senior services program. Coordinates with departmental staff for efficient and safe use and maintenance of the Community Center.

Typical Duties:

  • Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate qualified senior services staff
  • Develop, plan, promote and supervise a wide variety of senior service programs
  • Prepare program information for brochure and other marketing
  • Prepare participation and budget reports
  • Review, approve, and submit time sheets for senior services staff
  • Coordinate facility scheduling and maintenance needs with departmental staff
  • Communicate with senior center users, program participants, and Senior Services Advisory Commission
  • Oversee system for processing daily receipts, and process invoices for payment
  • Work with community partners and other agencies for the collaborative delivery of senior service programs
  • Prepare grant applications, prepare and submit reports, and solicit sponsorships for programs, events, and services
  • Work effectively within deadlines, with changing priorities, and on evenings and weekends as necessary

Preferred Qualifications: The successful candidate must be knowledgeable in current issues related to the provision of programs and services for older adults. A Bachelorís degree, or equivalent, in gerontology, recreation, leisure services, or related field is required. Three or more yearsí experience in senior services/recreational programming is required; supervisory experience is desirable. Must be customer service oriented, able to set priorities and work on multiple tasks simultaneously. Strong communication and organizational skills are required. Experience using Microsoft Office products is desirable. Certification of Basic First Aid and Adult & Child CPR with optional AED training is required, or candidate must possess the ability to obtain certifications within six months of hiring.

Compensation: Starting salary $48,000, DOQ.

Safety Town Program Director

Northville Parks and Recreation, a shared service between the City of Northville and Northville Township and is accepting applications for an Assistant Director for the Safety Town program. Mid May/ June through mid August, Monday- Friday with the exception of calendar dictated holiday/s. Approximately 25-30 hours per week. Mandatory in-service, preparation and planning time TBD prior to program start date. The position is a non-union, seasonal position, paid hourly with no benefits other than those required by law and is not available to accumulate compensation hours.

Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Recreation Superintendent, or their designee the employee in this position plans and supervises all aspects of administering a fun, and educational safety program for children entering kindergarten.

Typical Duties:

  • Assist with daily supervision of pre-kindergarten children and teen volunteers and interactions with parents.
  • Assist with daily planning and implementing daily Safety Town activities
  • Assume role of Director in their absence

    Minimum Preferred Qualifications:
    21 years or older preferred with background in child development, elementary education, recreation or extensive experience working with pre-kindergarten children and teens. Mature, responsible, self-confident and energetic. CPR, AED and First Aid certified. Criteria for employment for this position requires a pre-employment drug screen, and background checks through the Michigan State Police ICHAT and Sex Offender Registry.

    Compensation: Hourly range: $12.00-$13.00 DOQ

    Summer Day Camp Counselors: Two Positions Open

    Northville Parks and Recreation, a shared service between the City of Northville and Northville Township and is accepting applications for two counselor positions for the department sponsored Summer Day Camp program. Mid May/ June through mid August, Monday- Friday with the exception of calendar dictated holiday/s. Approximately 30-40 hours per week. Mandatory in-service, preparation and planning time TBD prior to program start date. The position is a non-union, seasonal position, paid hourly with no benefits other than those required by law and is not available to accumulate compensation hours.

    Typical Duties:
    Under the supervision of the Day Camp Director and /or Day Camp Assistant Director, Recreation Superintendent or their designee. Counselors supervise children ages 6 -11,plan and lead activities including group games, swimming, crafts, and field trips for day camp. Counselors implement safe play practices and manage age-appropriate levels of fair play and competition. Also responsible for set up, take down, equipment inventory and record keeping. Possible Supervision of additional summer programs and activities including teens and special Event for patrons of all ages.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    18 years of age or older preferred. A minimum of one (1) year experience teaching,
    coaching or supervising children in a group setting. Babysitting jobs alone will not
    qualify you for this position. Must possess a valid driver's license and have reliable
    transportation to and from the work sites. Certification of Basic First Aid and Adult &
    Child CPR with optional AED training or ability to obtain prior to first day of work.

    Monday-Friday, June 19 - August 18 with the exception of calendar dictated holiday/s.

    Seasonal Park Worker

    Northville Parks and Recreation is accepting applications for Seasonal Park Worker, Monday Ė Friday 7am Ė 3pm. Employees in this position provide maintenance services for the Northville Parks & Recreation parks and facilities. Position runs from March 21st through November 11th. This is a seasonal position.

    Successful candidates must be at least 18 years of age, have a valid driverís license, and be able to perform basic maintenance duties. Average work week schedule would be up to 40 hours per week, with occasional flex scheduling depending on work load.

    Starting wage is $10 per hour depending on experience. There are no fringe benefits with this position.

    Park / Building Attendant Ė Northville Parks and Recreation

    Northville Parks and Recreation is accepting applications for Park/ Building Attendant position Ė week day/weekend and evening shifts. Employees in this position provide supervision and maintenance services for the Northville Parks & Recreation facilities.

    Successful candidates must be at least 21 years of age, have a valid driverís license, excellent customer service skills, and be able to perform basic maintenance duties. Average work week schedule would be 10 Ė 20 hours per week, with schedules changing monthly based on park /building usage.

    Starting wage is $10 per hour. There are no fringe benefits with this position.

    Duties: Effectively able to head or assistant coach for 5th & 6th and 7th & 8th grade boys Lacrosse

    Qualifications: Must be eligible for employment in the United States and possess a valid Michigan driverís license. These positions require Proof of registration with the US Lacrosse Association. Applicant should have coaching or playing lacrosse experience.

    Supervised by: Lacrosse Coordinator or their designee

    Estimated Work Time: Employment is approximately March through early June with the exception of calendar dictated holiday/s.

    Pay: These positions are paid on a Contracted Service basis. Pay is commensurate with experience and responsibilities.
